Additional norms

From Kanthaus wiki

There are many things that we prefer to do in a certain way, but for whatever reason don't make it into the constitution, collective agreements, visitor infopage or any of the signs around the house. This page can act as a gathering place for those things. These norms are not rules: they can be edited by anyone at any time without process.

Still, if these norms and customs found their way here, there is reason behind. One that probably has to do with making this run smoothly, which is also directly related to our capacity of hosting a lot of people/groups.

If you are not sure how to do something, ask, really, as many times as necessary. If you are sure but it's your first time, don't be sure.

Toilets

  • we pee sitting down. Regardless of your aim, it makes for cleaner toilets, period.
  • check after every shit: brush if you gotta (the toilet)
  • if you finish the toilet paper, butt towels or menstrual products, refill immediately. Having to scream for TP is funny only when almost never happens, and you are not alone.

Bathroom

  • Clean the drain of the shower after use. It quickly clogs.
  • Make sure the floor is not left wet. There is a towel dedicated for the floor.
  • Leave the shower head in its holder, pointing down. It is simply the best place, and where you found it.

Kitchen

  • don't wash up cups/plates/cutlery: use the dishwasher. It is more water, detergent and work efficient. Yes, really.
  • keep sink clear at all times when you're not actively using it (applies to all sinks)
  • if people are preparing a communal meal, ask them before hanging out there. After you offered help, of course.
  • use the extraction fan when frying. It traps fat particles, instead of becoming stickiness in our walls.
  • prepared food should only be left on the table during communal meal times, afterwards it goes to the stove above the oven, the fridge or the food shelf
  • when emptying a pot/pan/casserole/whatever of communal food, ideally clean it, but at least put it to the dirty dishes next to the sink

Uncategorized

  • closed windows should have both latches secured, to prevent accidental fall of the whole thing.
  • don't leave wood furniture wet: wipe up spills on tables
  • throw trash in the appropriate bins, separate parts if you have to. It is an environmental responsibility.
  • every time you ring the door bell, someone is distracted: take care you have a way back in without ringing
  • every time you call the house, someone is distracted: try to contact the person directly first
  • be thorough. When one is not, a task might have been created for someone else, that wasn't there and they didn't choose.
  • don't leave a tiny bit of food—finish it! (and throw away the packaging / move pot or pan to washing up area, and soak with water)
  • All communal items you use should go back to the exact same place. If you don't remember, ask. Otherwise you will be cursed by anyone trying to find it, or god almighty forbids, having to buy a replacement.
  • behave in a way that we don't need to make any more rules. Pretty please.
