Still, if these norms and customs found their way here, there is reason behind. One that probably has to do with making this run smoothly, which is also directly related to our capacity of hosting a lot of people/groups.

If you are not sure how to do something, ask, really, as many times as necessary. If you are sure but it's your first time, don't be sure.

There are many things that we prefer to do in a certain way, but for whatever reason don't make it into the constitution, collective agreements, visitor infopage or any of the signs around the house. This page can act as a gathering place for those things. These norms are not rules: they can be edited by anyone at any time without formal process.

Toilets

  • pee sitting down
  • check after every shit: brush if you gotta
  • if you finish the toilet paper, butt towels or menstrual products, refill immediately

Bathroom

  • clean the drain of the shower after use
  • make sure the floor is not left wet; there is a towel dedicated for the floor
  • leave the shower head in its holder, pointing down

Kitchen

  • don't wash up cups/plates/cutlery: use the dishwasher
  • only leave the sink completely clear (applies to all sinks)
  • if people are preparing a communal meal, ask them before hanging out there
  • use the extraction fan when frying
  • prepared food should only be left on the table during communal meal times, afterwards it goes to the stove above the oven, the fridge or the food shelf
  • when emptying a pot/pan/casserole/whatever of communal food, ideally clean it, but at least put it to the dirty dishes next to the sink

Uncategorized

  • if you are not sure how to do something, ask as many times as necessary; if you are sure but it's your first time, don't be
  • close windows with all latches secured (1-3)
  • don't leave wood wet: wipe up spills on tables
  • minimize (your guests or groups) from ringing the doorbell
  • minimize your contacts calling the house: encourage direct calling
  • be thorough
  • don't leave a tiny bit of food—finish it!
  • all communal items you use should go back to the exact same place, if you don't remember ask
  • behave in a way that we don't need to make any more rules
