We mark a lot of stuff! 🖊️ Marker pens are a critical tools in our labeling efforts.
Neuland markers
After using whatever pens came our way over the years, we bought a bunch of fancy Neuland markers in 2025. These were chosen since they are sturdy, refillable, color-coded, replacement nibs and caps are available and they are made in Germany.
The red markers 🔴 have permanent ink, the white markers ⚪ have whiteboard ink. These markers are not cheap (~3€ each) and are intended to be deployed to specific locations for findability/not getting lost. This is currently done by giving the pens a location label and using magnetic clips. If the pens are drying out, don't press harder—refill! Do it yourself (see documentation below) or alert responsible people. Refill ink, replacement nibs, magnetic clips and replacement pens are in a drawer in the Office marked "Stifte".
