Having a person registered could eventually translate into problems or annoyances. There might be hesitation to handing out registration forms. Registering can be approached as written in this article.

Registering in Kanthaus

Applying

Volunteers and Members can apply for registration. This will be voted upon by Volunteers and Members. Voting time should be at least three days. Voting can happen via Mattermost, ukuvota or similiar

Upon acceptance

A board member will sign the registration form and update the list of people currently registered.

Unregistering

A person should unregister in case of becoming a visitor or moving out of Kanthaus permanently. It should happen in a reasonable timeframe and be communicated.

About rental contracts

Not having a rental contract is preferred. When asking for a rental contract it should be communicated what the upsides to this would be. Rental contracts (written and unwritten) are only for VolMems who plan to live in Kanthaus for a longer period of time.

Random knowledge & legal context

  • We pay 50€ a year per person registered for trash service
  • Making rental contracts temporary is usually invalid. There are only some reasons which don't really apply to us.
  • When taking money in return for living in the house, there already is a rental contract. It's best to have a written contract, verbal lease agreements can be annoying in the long run.
  • Visitors/guests are legally allowed to stay somewhere unregistered for up to 6 months. So basically forever with breaks. This only applies when they are not paying rent.
  • Tenants are legally required to register within two weeks after moving in (or deregister after moving out).
  • Providing false information during registration or failing to deregister is a violation and may result in fines.
  • If we suspect misuse, we could request a registration record inquiry (Melderegisterauskunft) by demonstrating legitimate interest and request a persons deregistration.

Alternatives to registering at Kanthaus

If people need to register somewhere in the area for official reasons, there are two options in Leipzig where you can have mail delivered to. It's not a shame to go to these places. It can still feel that way though.

Probably there are also social workers who could help with applying for social benefits and other problems. Calling first recommended.
