Negative Visitor Document

From Kanthaus wiki

Usually we try to give people positive ideas about how Kanthaus works, what to do and what to expect. This time the approach follows the question 'What to do to really piss off Kanthausians?'

Ignore privatization

Everything is communal by default in Kanthaus, yes. But that puts even more importance on the cases where someone went to the trouble of privatizing something. That can be claiming a room, claiming a desk, writing a name on an item in the fridge or anything similar. Barging into a room that says 'occupied' or taking a cable from someones desk is mind boggling for Kanthausians and will make them very unhappy.

Break stuff and hide it

Communal stuff gets broken all the time. It's not great, but it happens. The main thing is to let everyone know so that the next user will not have an unpleasant surprise. If you hide it instead, you're bound the piss someone off - especially if it's critical infrastructure.

Waste food

Make lots of coffee in the evening and just let it cool down? Let food rot in your shelf? Open a bigger container and then just forget about it? Please don't.

Be loud and obnoxious

Some people are louder than others, that's fine. There should be some awareness, however, that your actions impact others and that they might not want to engage right now. Just don't force yourself on people and try to sense the atmosphere of a room before taking all the space.

Clutter communal spaces

This should be a no-brainer: tidy up behind yourself! Don't create annoying, avoidable work for other Kanthausians!

Leave beds without covers

Moving duvets away and thus making a bed unusable is the worst, but also just removing sheets and covers and leaving the bed naked is extremely annoying. You want to be a good guest and clean up behind yourself? Fine, but please finish the task by putting on new sheets!

Start a task too big your the time of your stay

We love people getting active and tackling things! But if you start something that will end up half-done by the time you leave and nobody agreed to take over, then it gets on our nerves. Just think about your capacity, motivation and time before you start and make sure to coordinate with a person that stays on longer.
